An Amazing Kitchen

An amazing kitchen. That’s what everyone wants, right? You’re no exception, I’m certainly not and neither are my clients. But, what makes a kitchen amazing? Great space planning for one, to get the most efficient use and storage out of the space. Innovative finishes and appliances. Where do you turn for such information? I hope you turn to your interior or kitchen designer.  For me, it’s a trade show called KBIS. The Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) was held in Las Vegas this past January and displayed  thousands upon thousands of square feet of the latest and best products on the market or to come onto the market this year. I love attending trade shows.  As a designer, how better to gain access all at once to all the wonderful products out there so I can discern which one may be best for my clients or current projects?

A current project of mine in Ohio involves a kitchen mini renovation.  When I say mini, it means we will renovate parts of the kitchen and some aspects of the existing kitchen will remain.  In this instance, the custom cherry cabinets will remain and we will replace countertops, appliances, backsplash tile, lighting and a gorgeous new farm style sink that I found along a back wall at KBIS2015!

Also on the list is a new exhaust fan for above the cooktop which we are replacing with either another drop in or a slide in range. When it comes to kitchen exhaust fans, I must say, I originally yawned at the idea of visiting a show room recently in San Francisco while on #BlogTourCali with Modenus to Zephyr.  Zephyr is celebrating  10 years with renowned designer Fu Tung Cheng.  Fu tung Cheng is an acclaimed designer who specializes in designing and working with concrete.

Moving right along, what’s exciting about hood fans? We know we need them, but really? Well my perception changed during that visit to the Zephyr showroom.  Not that the fab dinner and cocktails didn’t help, however Zephyr demonstrated the power and silence of their exceptional product.  Walking by a long display of hood fans, I wondered, well, why don’t they turn them on? They were all ON.  Not a sound, no jet taking off in your kitchen, no shouting for everyone to come to the table above the awful sound of the dreadful greasy hood fan.   A piece of paper held up to the fan and stayed there convinced me they were running quietly.  They also had some kicker styles. A Well Designed Life via BlogtourCali

I lived a very Well Designed Life last month during BlogTourCali. What is that you may ask? Interior Design BlogTours were the brainchild of Veronika Miller, founder of Modenus, with the purpose of gathering designers from various geographical areas and design backgrounds who are active on social media, to drink wine, to travel and be exposed to new design shows, products and elements for the purpose of educating them so they can in turn educate their readers.

Arriving in Santa Monica by chauffeur from the airport to our hotel, we were treated to an opening night reception on the top floor with an amazing view. Cameras clicked and people clicked. It was magical. Veronika shared what surprises were in store for us.

Santa Monica BlogTourCali

Beginning the BlogTourCali foray into the California scene was not at all difficult considering the amazing weather that designers from OHIO don’t encounter during October! So after a meet and greet at the hotel with the other bloggers, both stateside and international, we were whisked off to a warm Hollywood Welcome at Petit Ermitage, a Bohemian Boutique Hotel (with an amazing website, so be sure to click on the hotel name to check it out!) sponsored by DXV,the high end line of American Standard in Bathroom Fixtures and Fittings.

Signage to welcome us to what was in store!

Delightful and quaint seating areas where we had our evening meal shared by DXV media personnel. Remember we are all design bloggers so no toilet jokes.

Thank you to our BlogTourCali Sponsor DXV for an amazing evening! It was lovely!

A verdant rooftop garden oasis was the backdrop for the evening.

Of course I had to include a photo of moi, for the DXV Strike a Pose Event. Enough of you did not vote for me so I did not win. Thanks so much.

You will learn a little more about the DXV product line when I share with you about the Westedge Design Fair and other sponsors. But before we converged upon the Design Fair we were treated to a marvelous Brunch at Miele-usa Showroom. Stay tuned for mouth-watering photos of news of their amazing new cooking equipment!
