DPVA Designer’s Show House & Gardens
Saturday, April 27 through Saturday, May 18, 2013
EIGHTEEN THOUSAND SQUARE FEET OF DESIGN. That’s exactly what purchasing a ticket to this fabulous Designer Show House can provide access to! In addition to the acres upon acres of gardens to peruse at The Rike Estate (High Acres) during the upcoming 2013 DPVA Designer’s Show House & Gardens, there are also many wonderful events planned such as three separate High Teas complete with Fashion Shows presented by “Get Dressed“, “Joli Boutique“, and “Magnolia’s On Main” , a tour of the estate and a book of exclusive tea recipes. Also planned is a “Little Me Tea” complete with a children’s fashion show accompanied with a tour of the estate and fun entertainment to bring your favorite little ones to. Please join us for an Opening Night Party on April 27th and another lovely evening party on Friday, May 17, as the Show House tours come to a close. Yes, it’s party season in Dayton, Ohio!
Why must you wait until April 27th to walk through and drool over this estate? Because….right now there are 45 designers, umpteen contractors, electricians, plumbers and painters etc. running to and fro (near frenzied) to transform this mansion into a special event just for you. Sounds like a lot, right? IT IS. Since this is the first DPVA Designer Show House & Gardens for which I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of as a designer and additionally as a blogger, I thought I’d take you on a little behind the scenes look at the activity over the next few posts.
Carol is standing in the newly renovated kitchen. You’re getting a little sneak peek here and it is beautiful!
Without Carol, nothing that could be done would be done in regards to the Show House. Currently the Vice President of the Dayton Philharmonic Volunteers Association, Carol is devoting her time to making sure everything gets done on time and according to plan.
“A non-profit organization, the DPVA was created in 1952 with an ongoing mission to support the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra in the areas of education, promotion, fund raising and membership development, the DPVA is the largest music education program in the United States and The Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Association’s Young People’s Concert Previews were named a Gold Award winner by
the League of American Orchestras. ” ~ DPVA
The Show House takes place every other year and my last conversation with Carol was that the DPVA was already on the lookout for the next location for the Designer’s Show House & Gardens for 2015! Makes my head spin just thinking about it. Carol is responsible for coordinating all the trades personnel (just like a designer) and making sure all the right color paint, provided by sponsor Sherwin Williams, gets put on all the correct walls and ceilings in all the correct sheen in the proper order necessary to allow the next trade personnel into a particular space. She’s great on her IPad (I’ve seen her) and still wears a smile ’round the clock.
In addition to Carol, there are dozens of generous volunteers who are overseeing various aspects of the Show House production; from marketing and printing to gardening and catering. Many volunteers also generously donate their resources to assist the effort. Volunteers must be lined up to work the High Teas, take your tickets, direct the parking and on it goes. A big Thank You goes out to all of those wonderful DPVA Volunteers and other residents of the surrounding communities whose participation and efforts make the event so successful.
Here’s a BEFORE picture of the Family Room:
Designer Jon Blunt of Luken Interiors of Dayton is one of the designer’s I’ve met since I’ve been working on this project as a designer as well as blogging about it. This is Luken’s design/inspiration board for the family room.
Two second floor bathrooms will be transformed by Patti Johnson Interiors and will be featured in an upcoming post. To the homeowner, Tom McColgan, who had to move out for a couple of months, thank you so very much for allowing us to have some artistic license in your home. We hope you will love it!
Looking forward to seeing flowers in bloom from the terrace overlooking the pool, pool house and grounds.
Interested in coming to see the transformation? For more information, please contact Leta at: email@example.com or call 937-572-7494. We’ll see you there.
A very special thank you to all of our wonderful Sponsors
