Green Design

Green Design~ That’s what you will see a lot of in 2013. Yes, sustainability will be ever present in design and specifically interior and exterior design; however I’m referring to Pantone’s color of the year, EMERALD GREEN!

Drum roll please - Here it is if you haven't already seen it a hundred times. Very pretty!

What do you think of it??

[feature color=”icon-black” title=”” icon=”none” ]According to Color Wheel Pro: “Green is the color of nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. Green has strong emotional correspondence with safety. Dark green is also commonly associated with money. Green has great healing power. It is the most restful color for the human eye; it can improve vision. Green suggests stability and endurance. In heraldry, green indicates growth and hope. Green, as opposed to the color red, means safety…” Some other shades of green: Aqua is associated with emotional healing and protection. Olive green is the traditional color of peace.[/feature]

Here are some lovely options for integrating some trendy emerald-green into your lifestyle in 2013. A new year is an excellent time to make a fresh start  in your home’s decor. Changing up the color is one of the easiest ways to freshen the design of a room.

I adore lacquered walls and this one is exquisite! Via Coastal Living.

green watch

This watch is a sure show-stopper. Chatti Patti certainly would NOT cover it with a long sleeve. Meant to be flaunted.

green shoes

Okay, not my style, but you get the idea.

emerald earrings

You must admit, it is a very rich color! AND definitely my style for the right occasion.

emerald gloss walls

I absolutely love the vibrancy of this room and the combination with the fuchsia pink chairs and roman blind.

If you want to play it a little safe, entertain the idea of some accent pillows in a shade of emerald green.

We Were Floored!

Expansive selections, innovative technologies and beautiful designs.

That’s what was on display at the AMTICO Flooring space during 100% Design last month. During BlogTour by Modenus, bloggers had an opportunity to examine and consider the samples up close. You may be thinking, why would I care about vinyl flooring? You may not be a designer who specifies commercial flooring, but I am certain you walk on some from time to time and it’s nice to know a little bit about the products being used. AMTICO is an environmentally friendly company that produces BOTH commercial and residential products that are manufactured in the USA! Is that as important to you as it is to me?

Yes, this is a vinyl flooring product! What a beautiful and creative floor design for a healthcare facility. Photo:AMTICO

Education about the technologies behind the product is very important to me as a designer. It helps me to explain to a client WHY they should purchase a certain product for reasons other than just that it looks pretty. I’m Chatti Patti and that’s how I roll!

Thanks for stopping by and come back for a new series soon on REAL LIFE COUNTRY LIVING. It will be a series based on a husband and wife team who dreamed of building a farmhouse in northern Michigan in the shadows of the Mackinac Bridge and the road well travelled to achieve it!  Included will be interviews with the DIY, country living- loving couple, lots of photos of the process and the kitchen (which I advised on). I’m so excited about it!

Designing Details ~

Designers often use details to make a statement. When determining what precisely could set a certain tone  for a piece of fine furniture or kitchen cabinets, the solution is often hardware. Hardware is by far one of the simplest ways to transform a standard chest into a significant statement piece to welcome guests into your foyer or express your personality in the kitchen on your cabinetry.  As a designer, I have always had a passion for beautifully crafted hardware. I consider hardware the jewelry of your home. Sometimes just the hunt is a thrill. Well, now I won’t have to hunt too far.

If you’ve been following Chatti Patti’s escapades in London during the recent BlogTour, most likely you’ve noted that the sponsors were all about luxury and great design. From beginning to end.

Enter Du Verre Hardware, a company that produces environmentally friendly designer knobs and pulls. With a long and impressive list of Designers such as Clodagh, Goodman  & Charlton, Jeff Goodman and Erin Adams with backgrounds in various disciplines, who lend their expertise, creativity and signature to product development, it’s no wonder the collections of  Du Verre are used around the world in hotel chains such as The Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Ritz Carleton Hotels and Gettys to name just a few!

What are some of the characteristics of Du Verre Hardware that make it so unique?

  • Each piece is finished by hand, which may result in small variations in the finished product, but we designers love that!

  • All the hardware is made from recycled aluminum. ~ yes, I know that’s hard to believe by looking at these beautiful photos, but they are green. Read more here.
